Match Report - U15s

A first game of the season for our U15's consisting of regular third and second team players with our Birmingham Superstar making a visit straight from a game at Sutton Coldfield.

H&S batted first with Israr and Saeed opening the bowling for CBCC. The Hampton lads were confident and expressive, and played some good shots around the park. CBCC made the breakthrough in the 4th over through a good catch by Aabid at mid-off. Israr was determined and used the short-ball well to keep H&S batsmen on their heels. Kashif bowled well for Castle Bromwich, taking 3 wickets in total. Luke, the captain of H&S played some excellent pull-shots reminiscent of James Taylor, a player similar in stature. Hampton and Solihull ended their innings on 124 for 6.

The opening batsmen for CBCC were Saeed and Aabid. Saeed went about putting his recent bad-form to bed with an excellent contribution of power hitting and quick singles. Aabid was run-out from an excellent direct hit; a feature of H&S performance was their superb out-fielding.

An exhilirating partnership between Kashif and Israr brought the total within reach until an unfortunate run-out; however, with the evening drawing in it became more difficult to catch up to the scoring rate. A final flourish between Ishaq and Haider wasn't enough and in the virtual darkness our U15's were unable to reach their target.

It was a great game and played in the best of spirits between two great clubs.

Tuesday August 9th

On a surprising chilly evening in the serene surroundings of Water Orton CC our u13 went to play a 8 a side game against our local rivals.

WOCC batted first and those who know the format of junior cricket know that the batting side start with 200 runs and bat in pairs for 4 overs losing 5 runs for every wicket. Our youngsters bowled well, in particular Harry, Adnan and Dawud demonstrated excellent control whilst Aabid was the main wicket taker. WOCC ended on 315 runs off their 16 overs.

CBCC u13 replied in a measure way and after 2 pairings were on 218. Abbas and Yusuf helped to tick the scorebook over leaving the final pairing 61 runs to win in 4 overs. This is when the fireworks were lit. Aabid and Ishaq played some glorious shots in particular the cover and off drives well employed.

Off the final 2 overs CBCC needed 40 runs, Aabid then struck 5 boundaries meaning CBCC needed 20 off the last over. It eventually boiled down to needing a 6 off the last ball however it was not to be and CBCC lost by 3 runs.

A great nights entertainment and an exciting conclusion to our U13 game with many thanks to Water Orton agreeing the fixture at short notice after some recent disappointing cancelations from other teams.

Great news has reached us that Bears & 2nd team star Israr has achieved success in all his Warwickshire U15 trials and has been selected for the U15 District side. This is a great honour for Israr but also for the club & coaching staff and the whole of the club wish him well in his further development into the cricketer we know that he can become. 22/12/15

Water Orton U11 v CB Bears U11

Monday July 6th

The U11 Bears were slightly hampered with the loss of two boys due to football related injuries just before the start of the game, however Water Orton were kind enough to let us have 2 of their players as fielders throughout the match - a very sporting gesture from our friends.

Water Orton CC batted first and were quickly put under pressure by some excellent bowling from Rupert, Taylor and Harry in particular. Rupert is now showing the benefit of  playing regularly in the Under 14s team and is beginning to show some superb all-round skills, taking catches, direct hit run outs and bowling out opposition batsmen. There was very little seen of the wide balls & no balls that the youngsters had bowled in their first few games. Overall a good performance with the ball with CBCC taking 8 wickets in the match.

Batting in pairs, Aabid and Rupert started brilliantly; Aabid hitting 5 boundaries in his first 6 scoring shots and Rupert beginning to show his batting skills at the other end. The boys were coached to play without fear of getting out - simply find ways to score runs - and this they took to heart. Adam, Harry, Taylor, Adnan, Andrew and Dylan played superbly with measured aggressive scoring as the boys were looking for scoring opportunities on every ball. This very positive approach ensured that there was no repetition of previous games where the boys had got stuck in the crease for long periods and lost control of the innings.

Overall, the game marked a real development of our Under 11's game and hopefully set the tone for the remainder of the season.

Sunday June 28th - Castle Bromwich U14 v Sutton Coldfield U14

An overcast day did not promise much play but with a bit of flexibility from both sides a 16 over a side game was eventually played.

Sutton batted first and they were quickly out of the blocks, finding gaps in the field at regular intervals. Castle Bromwich's opening bowlers, Hamza and Tom were a little off-line and Sutton were quick to pounce on anything wide of the stumps. Ben Brassington bowled an excellent spell to bring back some control of the run rate but by then Sutton had compiled a daunting 144 off their 16 overs.

In reply

Castle Bromwich got off to the perfect start. Humza again showing his ability with some clean striking which has served him well in recent weeks (and indeed a promotion to the 2nd team) with another superb, if slightly chancy innings of 46. Alex at the other end was composure personified and he and his partners soon started to make a little headway into the total. Sadly, on this occasion, the total could not be reached despite a smart cameo innings from Aabid.

The youngsters are really benefiting from playing more matches this season than previously and are learning very quickly. This game was a perfect example of learning from the opposition’s strengths and emulating them in other games. This was highlighted by the Sutton batmen’s ability to exploit the gaps in the field with great expertise.

CBCC U14 v Coleshill CC U14

 Thursday June 18th at Coleshill

CBCC won the toss and fielded first. Coleshill were immediately on the backfoot due to the bowling of Humza and Harry Yate. Coleshill were unable to handle the length and pace of Humza and Harry Yate's excellent swing bowling. The first wicket came from a run out in the 2nd over and after 4 overs Coleshill were struggling at 15 for 4.

Coleshill recovered slightly in the middle overs despite the outstanding fielding of Castle Bromwich; there were two direct hit run-outs by Alex Knowles at short third man and three excellent catches by Tom Bostock and Harry Yate. A good over by Abbas and a final flourish from Humza and Harry meant that the final Coleshill total of 84 did not appear too challenging.

Humza and Alex opened the batting for Castle Brom. Immediately the power and stroke play of Humza was evident. The boundary was routinely peppered with sixes and fours and despite Coleshill's best efforts Humza powered his way to a second consecutive 50 off only 4.1 overs. Reference must be made to an extraordinary six almost into the road which brought the crowd onto their feet. The total was duly chased down with 5 overs to spare, Alex Knowles batted superbly for much of the innings but it was left to Tom and Haider to bring it home for CBCC.  Another stunning performance for this U14 team.

CBCC U11 v Wamley Phoenix U11

Walmley Phoenix batted first and under the scoring system of Under 11 cricket, they were able to put on 315 runs in 16 overs (each team starts with 200 runs and is able to score 2 for a wide / no ball etc) This was an excellent total however it was helped considerably by the high number of wides and no-balls bowled by our youngsters. This is something they need to work on - when encouraged to bowl quicker the number of wides / no balls reduced.

Fielding was a lot better in this game after they were given a briefing on fielding positions and the boys quickly responded and showed that they understood where to stand and to always walk & back up. Good support for one another in the field with a good positive attitude.

Despite having such a mammoth total to chase there were some good performances and upon being encouraged to to hit the ball a bit harder into the cover and mid-wicket regions runs were scored a little more freely. Hand & feet co-ordination is being worked upon which helped them to get closer to the balls before striking. This had the desired effect in that it freed them to play more expansive as opposed to constantly trying to defend every single ball.

Overall, a good game, lots of lessons learnt and hopefully the boys enjoyed the game against good opposition which included some Warks  players.

Next game: Make sure that you are there to encourage the future stars of CBCC
